BBM (IB/ Computer Applications) to BBA (International Business)

Course name and its structure for the BBA has changed recently. Is it a Fashion, Necessity or just a process of changing name? Shakespeare has rightly said ‘What’s in a Name.’ Recently Savitribai Phule Pune University has made changes in nomenclature of their courses BCA –Bachelor of computer Application to BBA (Computer Applications) and BBM (IB) to BBA (International Business). Apart from name of courses nothing else has been changed, syllabi is the same, eligibility for taking admission is the same . The students are going to get the same knowledge only the name of the degree is going to change. Does change in name make an impact on mind of students and the perspective employer? Actually if everything the syllabus, the eligibility is same then it makes no difference in just changing the name of the course.
We have many examples of this. ie Bombay changed to Mumbai , So BMC (Bombay municipal corporation ) changed to BMC (Brihan Mumbai municipal corporation) and the very own Pune University name changed to ‘Savitribai Phule Pune University ‘as their working didn’t change only the name changed. When we think from companies point of view, BCA now BBA (Computer Applications) possess the same syllabus structure which enables the candidate to have the required knowledge to sustain and compete in the field of computer applications. When everything boils down to job opportunities the candidate has to go through the usual selection process of the company, which will highlight mainly the required knowledge, which BBA (Computer Applications) definitely will provide.
Thus it makes no difference when name is changed as everything else remains the same. Please take a note of it.
